It’s not winter in Singapore. However, it is winter in the northern hemisphere. Birdwatchers like us are getting excited at the arrival of all the winter birds! :3 This is the time when birds migrate here for the warm environment from countries as far as Russia, China and Japan. They stay around here to feed and roost until March or April. Some will fly on to Australia or Indonesia. You can find many winter visitors in Sungei Buloh Wetlands Reserve or other nature reserves in Singapore, but our humble balcony forest has some too! :3 Here are some birds we have seen:
1) Tiger Shrike
2) Purple-backed Starling
3) Asian Paradise Flycatcher
Another bird that comes during winter is the 4) Blue-tailed Bee-eater. It comes when our Blue-throated Bee-eater leaves. We haven’t seen it yet but are hoping it’ll make its home in our forest 🙂
You can check out these birds’ pages for more information and pictures!
